A solution for soaring heat costs!

We at J.A. Mitchell Marketing want Canadian farmers to save on heating costs and achieve energy independence. We believe farmers can further both of these goals by heating their homes through the combustion of low quality, unmarketable grains. An average home can be heated for a season with roughly 150 bushels of grain (of course, the amount of grain needed to heat a home for a season will vary on the type of grain being burned and the size of the home). In our meetings with Canadian farmers, we have found that nearly every farmer has at least 150 bushels of grain they cannot sell for one reason or another, and it is precisely these unmarketable grains we propose that you burn in the Harman PC-45 Grain Stove.

An average home can be heated for an entire winter season with about 150 bu of grain!

Other manufacturers and retailers of grain burning stoves require you to burn clean #1 grain. We have never understood why farmers would want to burn grain they could sell, especially cleaned #1 grain, which can be sold at a premium. If marketable grain is used to heat homes, the owners need to factor the prices the grains would sell for into any calculation of savings on heating costs. If such calculations are made accurately, it becomes readily apparent the best way to maximize savings is to burn grains which were not going to be sold, or could not have been sold for much. Using a stove that burns unmarketable grain is also an effective strategy to prepare for the possibility of a steep increase in the price of grain. Farmers burning unmarketable grains can take comfort knowing that even if grains prices go through the roof, they will be able sell every last bushels of marketable grain at the high prices because they will only be burning unmarketable grain which could not be sold.

Use unmarketable grain as a heat source for your home!

For these reasons, we believe every Canadian farmer should have a Harman PC-45 Grain Stove. The PC-45 is the most versatile grain stove on the market today and is the only residential heating unit that can burn a wide variety of unmarketable grains. The PC-45 can burn such a wide variety of grain because Harman has put considerable time and effort into manufacturing a stove with a unique burning process with the capacity to make the fine adjustments needed to burn many different types of grain. Some of the features of the PC-45 that allow it to burn such a wide variety of unmarketable grain include its patented bottom feeding auger, a stir stick, a heavy duty igniter and an exhaust sensor probe (ESP). In the Grain Burning 101 section, we will explain why these and other features make the PC-45 the most efficient and versatile grain burning appliance on the market today.
